About Swedfund

Swedfund is the Development Finance Institution of the Swedish state, with the mission to combat poverty by investing in sustainable businesses in the world’s most challenging markets. Swedfund’s capital comes with requirements, targets and close support throughout the investment cycle as they seek to be an active, responsible and long-term investor.

Swedfund was founded 1979 and the portfolio’s total contracted amount at the close of 2019 was 5.558 billion SEK, divided between 64 investments mostly in Sub Saharan Africa. The investments will continue to grow during the coming years, thus the need for more competent people to be part of the journey!

Your role and responsibilities

You will join the 3-person impact team that is responsible for integrating the dimension of impact in the entire investment process, with the ambition to measure the effects of the investments and to support investments beyond regulatory compliance to create added value. The team is quite new in its current form, but part of the larger department ESG & Impact led by Johanna Raynal. Your role as an impact analyst is to fuel the entire impact team with relevant data and contextual analysis for different stages of the investment process. You will work with investment across various sectors to:

  • Analyze, research and prepare impact due diligence for prospective investments.
  • Collect data and monitor over time how the portfolio companies are performing against their initial development goals and selected KPIs.
  • Conduct exit analysis and share learnings with the team.
  • Prepare impact studies for selected sectors, markets, and investments.
  • Assist our portfolio companies in developing and improving their impact frameworks.
  • Support the work to further identify the effects that Swedfund creates through the investments and develop the ability to measure them in a credible way.
  • Work with Technical Assistance projects to support investments in strengthening impact outcomes.

Do you have what it takes?

To be successful and thrive in this role we believe that you:

  • Have an academic background with at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably development studies, economics, social or environmental studies, finance, or equivalent.
  • Have 1-3 years of professional experience in the field of impact investing, – management and/or -measurement, development finance or international development. Experience from working in and/or with developing countries is a merit.
  • Strong skills in context analysis, i.e. the impact potential of a company in a bigger context, including experience of working with both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Knowledge of impact investing industry terminology and tools, such as Theory of Change and IFC Operating Principles for Impact Management.
  • Advanced skills in data analytics and Excel.
  • Have full professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Additional language skills are an advantage.
  • Knowledge and/or experience from Swedfund’s focus sectors or thematic focus areas is a merit.

Details

Type of contract: Full-time permanent position
Place of work: Your home base is the Stockholm office, but the work is international so travels to the countries of operation might occur when travel restrictions are lifted.
Start date: 1st of April 2021 or as agreed by candidate and employer.
Other requirements: Swedfund will only be able to accept applications from candidates with a valid work permit and any potential relocation to Stockholm will be at the candidate’s own expense.
